You can get the correct car adapter from the manufacturer, or you may shop for it outside or online if you are getting a better price. Do ensure that you match the manufacturer code or the part codes exactly. This will ensure that the car adapter that you select is perfectly compatible with your electronic device.
You may even take your device to your local electronics store and ask them for a compatible car adapter. This can be done or you can shop online and wait for mail delivery.
In order to use the car power adapter, insert the small male jack that is present on it, into the appropriate port present on the electronic device. The design of a car power adapter is such that there is a small male jack that will be at one end of the power cord and there will be a larger male jack that will be at the other end of this cord.
You need to insert this larger male jack into the port that is in your car. Typically in most cars this port will be your cigarette lighter. It may be located just inside your car ash tray or it may be just next to it right on the dash board of your car. There are some cars that have a second ash tray as well as a cigarette lighter which will be located in the back seat. The new car models have separate ports that are specifically used for the car power adapter and these will not double up as cigarette lighters too.
The car power adapter will work only when your car is on or in case the key has been turned halfway as only this way the electronics will get engaged. There are some car models that allow power reaching the electronic equipment even is the car is turned off. But this can cause a serious power drain on the battery of the car. Thus this is not recommended for any other purpose except emergency use.
